My teaching involves technical communication courses with the Electrical Engineering programme and the Architecture & Technology programme. Both these courses are designed as interdisciplinary modules where students work with communication assignments in English/Swedish as part of technical content projects. I also teach technical communication as standalone modules at Master’s level and I am a member of the Division’s tutoring team for Chalmers Bachelor's thesis projects in Swedish.
My research concerns students’ writing/learning processes and I am currently carrying out a PhD-project in this area. On the basis of socio-cultural and dialogic theories of learning, the project investigates how a group of MA engineering students approach a disciplinary field which is new to them through writing. Presently, I am working on a set of parallel studies that address the following: how genre and disciplinarity are mediated in relation to a writing project; how previous knowledge of a disciplinary field is recontextualised for new purposes; and, how socio-scientific claims are being shaped through writing.
